Handover

Handover tips

A good handover protects both people: the person returning the item and the person receiving it. Keep it public, simple, and verifiable.

Before you meet

  • Use the platform claim status to confirm the claim was approved.
  • Agree on a public location and daytime meeting where possible.
  • Carry a charged phone and tell someone you trust where you are going.
  • Ask the claimant to bring reasonable proof, such as matching details, a receipt, a photo, or a document.

During the handover

  • Meet in an open, visible area rather than a private room, car, or isolated place.
  • Do not hand over an item until the verification details match.
  • For expensive items, ask a moderator, security guard, LC official, or trusted third party to witness the exchange.
  • For IDs and official documents, consider handing over through a police post, LC office, school, employer, or relevant institution.

Money and rewards

Lost and Found does not require payment for return. If someone voluntarily offers transport refund or a reward, agree clearly before meeting. Avoid advance mobile money requests from people you do not trust.

After the item is returned

  • The admin can mark the handover as completed.
  • The report should then be resolved so it no longer appears on the public board.
  • Keep any messages or proof of handover for a short time in case there is a dispute.

If something feels wrong

Pause the handover. Move to a safer public place, involve security or local authorities, and report the issue to Lost and Found.
